It’s our job as photographers to make our clients feel comfortable, but every once in a while we get the privilege of photographing a couple that is just effortless in front of the camera. Liz Carolina and Malvis were one of those couples! During their Key Biscayne engagement session at Bill Baggs State Park in Miami, they just blew us away!
Quick Tip: How to be effortless on camera
There’s no magic formula that makes some clients more effortless than others. We believe that all it comes down to is being so focused on having fun cuddling up and laughing with your love that you forget the camera is even there!
This is much easier said than done. But if you can pull it off, there will be an extra level of magic in your photos that we could never create ourselves!
Model Call Winners
Liz Carolina and Malvis were one of our model call couples! When they first applied to model for us, Liz Carolina wrote:
“We would like to get pictures because he’s a Marine and deploys and I’m an event planner and always working. We don’t have much together time, but when we do it’s just us, the world doesn’t exist.”
She told us Malvis would be deploying for eight months on the 13th of January! They wanted to get some photos together before he left. We loved their story and were super excited about photographing them!
Later the same week that they applied for our model call, we spotted a photo on her Instagram of their trip to Canada. They had gotten engaged!!
Their Love Story
Liz Carolina and Malvis came to Florida for school at Florida International University. She studied hospitality; he studied environmental science, which he claims is much less boring! After meeting at a party and getting to know each other, they started dating, and when they graduated, they decided to stay in Florida to be with each other!
They dated for years and stuck together through Malvis’s long deployments (the longest was a year!), bonding over good food, and Liz Carolina’s favorite: date nights at home, cuddled up and watching movies together!
Their Key Biscayne Engagement Session
I almost skipped this photo because I wasn’t sure about the composition, but Micaela convinced me to keep it because of the emotion. Liz Carolina says it’s one of her favorites!
On our way between locations, everyone we saw thanked Malvis for his service, which was really cool to witness.
One guy came running over and said he was a fellow marine! He stopped Malvis on our way to one location, and on the way back! They chatted a bit and he invited them to go back for drinks after. Malvis says this happens to him all the time!
I swear these two posed themselves for half of their photos! We gave them a starting pose and they kept moving and making it their own. Nothing makes our job easier than when our couples aren’t afraid to go above and beyond what we tell them to do!
We loved Liz Carolina’s jewelry for the session! For Christmas, Malvis gave her a necklace with a diamond in it. Five days later, on their trip to Canada, they went to a beautiful park in Montreal with views of the city . . . And Malvis proposed to her there!
The engagement ring he gave her that day features an emerald, which is exactly what she was hoping for! Malvis had the jeweler replace the diamond that was originally in the ring with an emerald, and put the diamond in a necklace!
We loooove when our couples tell us they know how to dance! Even if it’s just a little bit! SO much fun!!
Okay, literally the sweetest moment ever is coming up. Prepare your heart! We told them to think about Malvis’s deployment and how they felt about saying goodbye the next day . . . Then we told them to do what they would do when they next saw each other again! #tears
One of the best parts of our job is the relationships we get to build with our clients. Liz Carolina and Malvis became fast friends of ours!
After their session we all went out for frozen yogurt on Key Biscayne! We talked about food, wedding plans, and wedding food plans (they’re having a sushi bar at their wedding!!! Micaela freaked out, haha!).
A week later we met up with Liz Carolina again for nitrogen ice cream at Brain Freeze! She’s an event planner, so we were dreaming up all sorts of ways to work together in the future.
Guys, Liz Carolina is awesome! We literally stayed at that ice cream shop talking from 6:30 pm to when it closed at 10:30! Then we kept talking in the parking lot for a while after, too!
If you need a planner for a wedding, birthday party, or any other event, check out LCC Events! We are so excited to work with her in the future and hope you will hire her to plan or coordinate your wedding day!
And if you need a fun date night idea . . . She also runs this amazing free event called the Fort Lauderdale Artwalk once a month! Live music, live art, local vendors selling art and handmade crafts, and best of all: food trucks! Check it out!
Liz Carolina and Malvis, thank you so much for letting us be a part of this incredibly special time in your lives! We can’t wait for more double dates when Malvis returns!
